Great Stone Face
Description:

When Mormon settlers first arrived in Millard County they were surprised to find this huge rock monolith which bore, what seemed to them, a striking resemblance to their recently slain prophet, Joseph Smith. They called it the “Guardian of Deseret, (Deseret was and is the name of a nearby town.) Evidently its presence was comforting to many of the saints during times of trouble and tribulation as they looked up to see the image of their recent leader as he watched over them in their new settlements. This natural monument is open to the public and can be seen about four miles south of the town named Deseret.
