The Sevier River is the life-blood of Millard County agriculture. Hydrologists have described it as the most utilized river in the United States. Because some of the irrigation water taken from it eventually finds its way back into the channel, utilization is over 100 %. As its water moves downstream it picks up salt and that can create salinity problems for downstream users. The ditches you see extending into the desert are there to drain salt from local farmers’ fields.
