Green River Formation, Eocene

Metasequoia is a “Living Fossil.” It was first identified, many years ago in the rocks of North America’s Eocene formation and thought to be extinct. Then it was discovered, alive and well, in a small isolated grove in China. It has since been taken to many parts of the world and can be found in some backyards as an ornamental plant.
