Composita Brachiopod
This Composita Brachiopod appears to show predation damage. It is from the Pennsylvanian Period of New Mexico. The breaks in the shell are crisp and sharp and give all indications of having occurred prior to fossilization. There were blunt-toothed sharks during that time which specialized in eating shellfish; perhaps one of these was the suspect. Composita are very common in the Ely Limestone of western Millard County.
