As its name implies, most of Fossil Mountain is highly fossiliferous. In the foreground is the Juab Formation. The Kanosh Shale runs from the base to near the halfway point. Then the Lehman Formation extends up to the ledges. Rounding out the top are the Watson Ranch, Crystal Peak and Eureka Formations. The Kanosh Shale, in particular, is one of the richest fossil collecting formations in the world.
